"Dear Family" Letter:

What profession did you choose and why did you do so?

I decided to become a preschool & kindergarten teacher because my large family gave me the chance to grow up with many children around me. The contact with them gave me great pleasure and so I was sure for a long time that I can imagine a profession with children very well. I am in the last year of my training, which I will successfully complete at the end of August. As a preschool & kindergarten teacher, you take on an important social task, because you educate and care for the children of today, who will be our future tomorrow! So I can be a part of the future by being a role model for the children and teaching them important values that are important to our world and its creatures. It is also very fulfilling for me to be able to participate in the development of the children. It's just a great feeling to know that I'm laying the foundation for children to go far in life. In addition, you always get to know new families with different social and cultural roots and work with them in partnership. Above all, my year abroad will prove this to me and confirm how varied this profession is. For this reason, this profession is very exciting and also special for me.Also, you never get bored in this job. Every day is different because the children change and develop every day. Also, you get to work with the best people-the kids! If you have a bad day and a child smiles at you and is very happy to see you...then you know why you are a preschool & kindergarten teacher!

Why did you decide to work as a care professional abroad?

Seeing and discovering the beautiful world has been on my wish list for a very long time. At some point there had to be a start to fulfill my wish and so I decided to spend a year abroad in the diverse and breathtaking America. I have taken the fanstastic opportunity to combine travel with my work through my career choice. I am already filled with anticipation to dive into a new foreign culture and also to bring my culture closer. Furthermore, I have always been a fan of the English language and would like to improve my language skills through this one year. Additionally, I am very interested in the education and development of children abroad and am looking forward to being a part of a family in the host country. This year will also allow me to step out of my comfort zone and have new experiences that will make me grow a lot.

Why are you the best fit for a family and what are your specials skills when working with children?

There are a few reasons to choose me as a professional au pair. The first reason is that I am a friendly, humorous, responsible and peaceful person. I attach great importance to tolerance, harmony and equality. My pedagogical attitude is therefore characterized by appreciation, respect for difference and understanding.Through my professional internship in the year of recognition, I was able to develop my skills such as spontaneity and flexibility. This makes it easy for me to adapt to new situations and deal with them competently. My work colleagues have told me that I radiate a positive atmosphere and thus easily win the hearts of the children. They also describe me as a trustworthy, creative and motivated person. Through my various internships, I have worked with different age groups. I have also worked with children with disabilities and special needs. These experiences have broadened my horizons a lot and given me great opportunities to grow. I do my best and take my role as a caregiver seriously. Through my five years of training, I bring a lot of acquired knowledge to guide your children educationally. Every child is individual and special. It is very important to me to create a pleasant and appreciative atmosphere in which everyone feels safe and can be themselves. Only in this way can we learn from and with each other! An important aspect is to pick up on the current interests and preferences of the children and to take them seriously. It is important to me to maintain the children's motivation and curiosity. Since they play a big role for the life to come! I'm looking forward to making educational offers on the topics of the children and to impart knowledge to them. My interests, which have remained since I was a child, are dancing, listening to music and having fun. I try to dance every day and I am convinced that dancing and singing drive away negative thoughts. I can't wait to dance, sing and laugh with your children. We will have a great time together!

How do you like to spend your free time?

I would like to list here some activities and hobbies of mine: -walking in nature/forest, doing yoga or workouts. -Listening to podcasts (I also like to listen to them on my acupressure mat :) -playing/cuddling with my cat -ride my bike, inline skate -Dancing and listening to music -reading books or watching series or movies -taking care of my plants (it's like a meditation :D) -trying new vegan/vegetarian dishes -make my own household products and cosmetics I try to switch off in my free time and forget about the stressful everyday life. These listed interests of mine help me do that. I also like to try new things and do activities with my friends. With my girls, we explore new lakes or hiking areas and talk for hours. We also do games and creative evenings together. In the near future, I plan to start embroidering again and would like to improve my skills. I look forward to new opportunities for activities in America.

How would you describe your driving skills?

I would describe my driving skills as very good. I have been driving for 5 years.I often picked up my cousins from kindergarten or school by car. I like to ride my bike, but I bought my own car for cold winter days to drive to work every day, so I have experienced different weather conditions like heavy rain, black ice and snow. I have also driven automatic transmission for years and have experience on the highway, country roads and abroad such as Turkey, Austria and France.

What would you like to tell your host children and their parents?

I decided to write a little letter for the host children because I want to say something else about myself: Hello dear future host child, My name is Ela, I am 23 years old and at the moment I work in a daycare center with very young children and we have the current theme of spring. Together we made great butterflies for our colorful self-painted spring meadow. It looked so great! I'm looking forward to starting great activities together for different seasons! I'm also excited to see what you guys like to play and do in your free time. I look forward to spending time with you, laughing, dancing, cooking and having fun. I love to be your play partner and love to accompany you to your favorite places. My favorite place in my hometown is on the Danube (is one of the second longest rivers in Europe). I love to walk there and watch the beautiful sunset. I'm already curious what your favorite place is. I also love nature and that's why I love animals. My favorite animals are cats. Which animal do you think is your favorite...? ? Maybe also a cat :D When I was a child like you I always had a big dream to have a cat. Two years ago I fulfilled my dream myself. Now I have a cat and her name is Rüya and that means dream in Turkish. I could not have imagined a more beautiful name for her. If you want to know how she looks like you are welcome to look at my photos:D Maybe you also have a dream... and you like to tell it to me, when we see each other very soon! I am already quite excited. See you soon.... wish you a great time! Yours Ela

What else should a family know about you?

What else is important to know about me: I am called Elanur by my family, but my friends call me Ela.Of course you can call me that too :D I am Turkish but I was born in Germany. Therefore my name comes from Turkish and means honey-colored halo. The trigger for my final decision to go abroad was my mom. She motivated me and so I registered with Apexsocial. My whole family is behind me and supports me in my decision to go abroad for a year as an aupair. My boyfriend is also convinced that this year will be unforgettable for me.I am very grateful to have such great people in my life. But I am also looking forward to meeting other new people and exchanging experiences. Most people who don't know me that well say that the first impression of me is serious and shy. But everyone who gets to know me better says that this is the opposite! I just need some time to come out of myself completely. I hope you can understand that. I have decided to follow a special diet in 2019. I eat mostly vegan and vegetarian. That means I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and also sometimes meat substitutes. My family eats meat, so I have no problem living in a household where meat is eaten or prepared. Likewise, I have no problem preparing meals or dishes that contain meat. My boyfriend also eats meat but he loves to try vegan dishes with me. Before we got together he was a little skeptical about my diet but now he loves it. He said he is surprised how good the vegan food tastes and looks forward to new dishes every time. I made this decision for myself because I love and respect all animals equally. Here in Germany I meet many different origins like Greek, Ukrainian, Albanian, Bosnian, Russian and many more. Likewise, my circle of friends consists of these different cultures. In addition, my boyfriend is from Afghanistan and has been living in Germany for 6 years. I am very happy that I have this opportunity to acquire knowledge about different nations and to tolerate and accept them. Therefore, I am very open to new cultures and traditions! My religion is also characterized by tolerance and openness to the world! I would like to tell you a little bit more about it, because you have probably never heard of it :D I am a part of the Alevitentum and that is a religious doctrine that is translated as the 'way'. In this faith the human being is the center. Alevis believe in Hak. Hak is the truth or the divine that is in everything and everyone. 'Do not look for God in a foreign place! God is in yourself if you are of pure heart' !is a guiding principle. It is disputed whether it is derived from Islam or not. Therefore, in my religion there are no prayers that I have to perform five times a day or visit a mosque. If you have any questions I can tell you more about it...:)

What are some ways you can think of to prevent and deal with culture shock and home sickness when they arise?

I have also dealt with the issue of homesickness. I will definitely talk openly about it with my host family and my supervisor. I would also try out new things and look for activities that I enjoy in order to distract myself. Also, I know that nowadays we have the possibility to call my family in Germany and talk to them. In addition, I know that this one year will positively influence my biography and my whole life.My best friend is also going to America as an aupair this year. I will take a part of my home with me and have someone with the same feelings by my side. Therefore, I am very optimistic about dealing with homesickness.
